It’s been a long time coming for Fieldcrest football, or at least it’s felt like it. Until 2023, the Knights were strapped for experience and trudged through two straight campaigns without an on-field win.
But after a 4-5 season where they were oh-so-close to making the playoffs, head coach Nick Meyer and the Knights have more confidence than ever with a heap of returning starters who now know how to win.
“I’d be lying if there wasn’t a sigh of relief from our players and even me too,” Meyer said about breaking the streak last year. “Fieldcrest can be competitive. Winning is not going to be easy but it boosted the confidence to say ‘Hey, we can do it.’”
Senior fullback and linebacker Jackson Hakes knows that most football teams don’t turn into Cinderella overnight, but he believes the time has come that Fieldcrest will be a difficult game on anyone’s schedule.
