People still talk about Michael Jordan’s famous ‘flu game’ in the 1997 NBA Finals nearly three decades after it happened. They might do the same for Mya Edwards’ flu game, which featured the Eureka sophomore guard launching a half-court shot at the final buzzer to win the Heart of Illinois Conference Tournament.
Edwards’ Hornets made a big move up in the small school portion of this week’s Clutch Sports Media Girls Basketball Power Rankings. Dunlap shook things up in the large school rankings after the short-handed Eagles reversed a four-game skid by winning three straight.
Games will only get more crucial from here on out, especially for many of the teams in these rankings, with playoff seedings being finalized in just over a week. Notable clashes this week include Class 1A No. 1 Abingdon-Avon vs. Class 2A No. 4 Peoria Notre Dame, Tremont vs. Eureka, Pekin vs. Metamora and many more.
Teams from the Mid-Illini and Big 12 make up the large school rankings while every other area school falls into the small school category. Teams receiving consideration are listed as well.
