Whitson won CSM Girls Athlete of the Week after earning 52 percent of the votes in the girls poll. The junior setter was a key part in the Chiefs winning the Peg Bryan Invite, a tournament that was filled with schools with enrollments of over 1,000 more than Dee-Mack, at Joliet Central on Sept. 7. Whitson earned all-tournament honors after averaging over 17 assists and six digs per game at the event as the Chiefs beat Plainfield Central, Crete-Monee and Oak Forest. Earlier in the week, she posted 20 assists in a sweep over Heyworth and 10 more against Midwest Central.

Get to know Whitson in a Q and A here:

What’s been your favorite memory of the season/offseason so far?

“My favorite memory has definitely been the entirety of this season. Everything is new, new coach, new ways of doing things, so it is like starting fresh and we have beat teams that we couldn’t have last year and we have been able to be competitive in every game we have played which makes it so much fun.”

If you had to be stranded on an island with a teammate, who would it be and why?

“If I was stranded on an island, I would pick to be with Rease [Kelley]. I love all the girls on my team, but I think I relate the most to Rease.”

Favorite music artist?

“My favorite music artist is Anne Wilson.”

Favorite food?

“My favorite food is steak, specifically with a baked potato.”

Do you have any pregame routines/rituals?

“For pregame, I always go around and talk to all of my teammates to get prepared for the game. Also shoutout to Bethany who makes my hair look amazing when she is at games to watch.”

Who’s your favorite college or professional athlete?

“My favorite athlete is [University of Texas setter] Averi Carlson because I have followed her since she has been at Baylor and she is a setter like me.’

Do you have any hidden talents?

“Not necessarily a talent, but I am double-jointed so I can do weird things with my arms and weird out my teammates at games.”

Who’s your role model and why?

“My role model is Lauren Anderson. I’ve watched her play volleyball since I was a baby. I watched her through high school at Dee-mack and through college at Lipscomb and I am still close to her to this day!”

Glenn won CSM Boys Athlete of the Week with 72 percent of the vote total in the boys poll. He spearheaded Elmwood/Brimfield’s lethal rushing attack in a 42-12 win over Illini West with 27 carries, 225 yards and three touchdowns. He sandwiched that performance between two other big games, most recently a 277-yard, four-touchdown game in a 71-36 win over Knoxville on Sept. 13. Through three games this season, he’s accumulated 613 rushing yards and nine touchdowns while averaging 9.9 yards per carry plus an interception on defense.

Glenn had not responded to a Q and A inquiry as of Monday evening, this story will be updated if answers are received.
