There’s a big size difference between Farmington and Chicago Christian.
The Farmers boast around 100 players in their football program. The Knights have 34.
No. 6 seed Chicago Christian prevailed 34-20 in a Class 2A state semifinal on a cold, overcast afternoon in Farmington, overcoming a 2-plus hour road trip to give the top-seeded hosts their first and only loss of the season.
It sounds like a David and Goliath story, but the Knights eschewed the thought.
“Every week, there was a new challenge and they said yes to the challenge and they’re the toughest young men ever,” Chicago Christian head coach CJ Cesario said.
And for the Farmers, their story came to a bitter ending, one that they didn’t envision after already accomplishing the most successful season in program history.
“We’re proud of them, if I could’ve done anything to get it done for them, I would’ve,” Farmington head coach Toby Vallas said. “Those guys are warriors, they’re gonna put it out there for their team and they did; that’s what high school football is about,” Vallas said.
