METAMORA — Jared Grebner has Metamora football down to a science.
He transformed from the team’s water boy in his youth to a standout player on Malone Field, to the program’s head coach for the last five seasons. Now, the leader of one of Central Illinois’ most storied programs has decided to pass the torch.
Grebner resigned from the position on Friday, leaving behind a legacy of success after leading the Redbirds to a 30-17 record from the Spring 2021 season through 2024.
“It’s a decision of course that I didn’t take lightly, it’s a program I’ve been a part of for a long time now,” Grebner said. “After weighing my options, the bottom line was there was never one thing that pushed me over the top that led me to my decision, or two things, or three things. But when you started to add everything up, really what it all led to was that I needed to step away.”
