Handful of area teams including Morton, Manual rise in latest AP statewide rankings

The total number of teams in Central Illinois who were ranked or received votes in the AP statewide rankings dipped from last week, but six teams moved upward in the latest rankings.


A total of 12 teams received recognition after a week with multiple important contests, including Morton's girls knocking Washington from the ranks of the unbeaten on Jan. 14, Peoria's boys beating Metamora on the same night, and Deer Creek-Mackinaw girls edging out Tremont in the Route 9 Rivalry on Jan. 9.


Five out of the dozen teams were ranked in the top five of their respective polls, including Washington girls, who remain the highest-ranked squad in the area.
