How Washington boys lacrosse made history and ‘re-created the standard’ in 2024

The 2024 season is done for the Washington boys lacrosse team, but that doesn’t mean that its one that they’ll be forgetting anytime soon – or ever. Behind a pair of brothers, a few football players and a head coach who has never played the sport competitively before, the Panthers made history not just for themselves, but for the entire central Illinois region. 


Washington has posted winning records in each of their five seasons since starting a boys lacrosse program, but they broke through this past year and became the first boys lacrosse team outside of the Chicagoland area to win a sectional title in the six years since it became an IHSA-sanctioned sport.
