Michel’s Musings, Sept. 2, 2024: Girls flag football, the undefeated club, participation records and more

Whew. What a week.

The end of August typically marks the time when the trickle of the early high school golf season turns into a fire hose as football, volleyball, boys soccer, cross country, girls tennis and girls swimming and diving joins the fray.

I, for one, can’t wait to see what unfolds this fall. Memories of the outstanding teams, star athletes, and many stories from last season – my first fall truly covering all high school sports in Central Illinois on CSM Overtime –  are solidified in my memory. Another layer will definitely be added soon.

In case you’re new here, Michel’s Musings is our new weekly column where we touch on everything notable, noteworthy and exciting that happened in high school sports around the Peoria/Bloomington-Normal area that we didn’t otherwise cover during the previous week.

Full disclosure, last week was a hectic flurry of activity finishing all 30 of our in-depth high school football team previews while preparing for the perennially-stressful first football broadcast of the year. We will be diversifying our written coverage across various sports in the coming days with a team of beat reporters ready to bring you stories each week.

If there’s anything that should be included in this weekly column, something that we missed, or any story ideas for us in general, feel free to reach out to us at clutchsportsil@gmail.com!
