Michel’s Musings, Sept. 23, 2024: Flurry of recruiting news, a new basketball and IHSA honorees

It’s many high school student-athletes’ dream to play in college but according to multiple entities, only about seven percent of them achieve that dream.

Now that may seem like a high number, especially considering the pathways that are Division III/NAIA schools and especially the amount of junior colleges, which – even aside from athletics – are growing in popularity. But an undeniable truth is that it isn’t easy to play college sports and doing so requires a lot of hard work, sacrifices, and highlight-posting.

Many local high school athletes from Central Illinois, however, have recently received such opportunities over the last week or two, which is the focus on this week’s Michel’s Musings column.

Lots of other interesting things happened recently, including a notable change to IHSA basketball, area programs being honored by the IHSA and more. We dive into all of them below.
