WASHINGTON, IL – Kicking field goals is often taken for granted, especially at the higher levels of football.
But having a strong, reliable kicker at the high school level is a luxury. And Washington has one in junior Devin Miller, an unsung hero for the playoff-bound Panthers.
As of a few weeks ago, he’s also the school record-holder for longest field goal following 52-yard boot through the uprights in a 31-10 win over Dunlap on Oct. 11. Many who had watched Miller before knew he possessed a strong leg, but the Washington junior relished the chance to let it shine for everyone.
“I've been preaching 52 yards all season so I’ve been wanting to get that school record,” Miller said. “When we got to [the 35-yard line], we threw two [incomplete] passes and there was one that was really close. I heard the call for the PAT/field goal [unit] and I got out there, I knew I could make it.”
