NORMAL, IL – Tuesday’s Class 4A Normal West Sectional semifinal between Normal West and Normal Community was a clash of the titans.

Both teams combined for a 63-11 record heading into the game, took the top two spots in the Big 12 during the regular season and each rode a seven-game win streak. With only 8.2 miles separating the two schools, which finished a game apart in the Big 12 standings, both sides of the gym were full in a true playoff atmosphere.

It was the Wildcats who delivered in front of a packed house, taking down their rivals 25-14, 30-28 to punch their ticket to the IHSA Class 4A Normal West Sectional Finals.

“Why you coach and why you play is for moments like this,” Normal West head coach Kelsey Mueller said.
