Peoria High seeing Green as the present, and future, of Lions’ program

Hours before Peoria High’s week four game against Normal Community in 2023, Breon Green wasn’t a household name in the area. To his teammates and those in the Lions’ program? 

Maybe, but Peoria High’s backup quarterback was largely overshadowed by three-year starter Tino Gist. 


That all changed in the game against the Ironmen, when Green received the starting call mere hours before the game and led the Lions offense to scoring 42 points against one of the state’s best defenses. He connected on a few deep passes, escaped pressure with his legs, and had the Lions locked in a back-and-forth battle against a team that matched the definition of dominant.


That was the flash, but this year has been an explosion in comparison for Green, who’s became one of the top players in the area.
