“Phenomenal kid”: Morton’s Burns overcomes father’s passing with help from coach

MORTON — Morton’s baseball team has made many in Potter Nation feel proud.


The Potters carry a 21-5 record as of Wednesday morning while playing a challenging schedule and an 8-3 mark in Mid-Illini play, tied for the top spot in the conference. But there’s a few people who can feel extra proud of what the team, and specifically sophomore Collin Burns, has done. 


Burns, a multi-sport athlete who also plays basketball, has played baseball “as long as he can remember”. He comes from a family that loves baseball, with his brother, Brennan, playing for the Potters in the mid-2010’s and his father, Bob, introducing him to the game at a young age.
