“Speechless”: Washington evades persistent Potters for first sectional crown since 2014

OTTAWA, IL – Tyson versus Holyfield. Ali versus Frazier. Mayweather versus Pacquiao. Washington versus Morton.


Round four between the Mid-Illini rivals was expected. The prelude in December set the tone. The first conference battle ended a streak. The regular season finale decided a conference title. 


And in the fourth heavyweight fight, the Panthers delivered a knockout blow, 60-50 over the Potters, for the team’s first sectional title since 2014 at historic Kingman Gym in Ottawa.


For many years, Washington was knocking on the door. On Thursday, they finally broke it down.
