MACKINAW, IL – Electric.
That’s perhaps the only way close to describing the atmosphere in Dee-Mack’s Virgil Jacobs Gymnasium for Thursday’s Class 2A girls sectional championship. With home supporters clad in red, showing up in droves, coupled with the large and passionate fanbase of Peoria Notre Dame, the atmosphere was everything and then some.
Back and forth the contest – a rematch of last year’s sectional title game – went, seeing the Irish hold a halftime lead while Dee-Mack made their own push in the second half. But when the clock hit zeros, PND found a way in one of the toughest environments and in the biggest game of the season thus far, winning 47-43.
