The Roundup, Nov. 9, 2024: U-High reigns above all in soccer, Pioneers and Farmington advance in football, plus state XC and sectional swimming

Saturday was a jam-packed day full of high-level action across multiple sports in Central Illinois.


State titles were decided in boys soccer and boys/girls cross country with Normal U-High soccer finishing an incredible postseason with a Class 1A State Title behind a huge game from Noah Molitor. Elmwood/Brimfield, Morton and Maxwell Kirby led the way in boys cross country while El Paso-Gridley and Normal U-High’s Zoe Carter paced the girls runners at Detweiller Park. 


Several area football teams saw their seasons come to an end against top-tier opponents n the second round of the postseason but Farmington and Normal U-High punched their tickets to the quarterfinals. Washington and Metamora led the way in girls swimming and diving sectionals as multiple area athletes qualified for state in the pool.
