The Roundup, Sept. 6, 2024: Bloomington, Peoria High, Richwoods win close crosstown battles, 13 teams move 2-0

Crosstown battles took center stage in Week 2 of the IHSA football season with a number of thrillers in Bloomington-Normal and Peoria. 


Bloomington held on to beat U-High in a close game full of excitement and Normal Community took home its second straight Chili Bowl. In Peoria, Richwoods and Peoria High came away with single-digit victories. In the Mid-Illini, Metamora, Dunlap and East Peoria all advanced to 2-0 while Pekin dropped a heartbreaker in overtime. 


Elmwood-Brimfield, Farmington, Dee-Mack and Eureka were among the small schools teams continuing their hot start and Princeville won the closest game of the night.


In other sports, Peoria Christian soccer and Normal West volleyball were among the top-performing teams.
