WASHINGTON, IL – For the first time since they won the state championship in the 2011-12 season, the Peoria High Lions are sectional champions.
The Lions outlasted the Metamora Redbirds 57-48 in front of a sold-out Torry Gymnasium in Washington to earn the sectional crown. Peoria High improved to 29-4 overall, while Metamora saw a great season conclude with an overall record of 28-5.
People were lining up outside of Washington High School two hours before the game tipped off. It added a greater sense of anticipation and importance to a game that already had a ton at stake. Peoria High head coach Daniel Ruffin sensed the nervousness coming out of his Lions before the game and had an inspiring message to his ballclub before the game.
