WASHINGTON – Top-ranked Washington is used to being on the receiving end of every team’s best effort. For more than 20 minutes on Monday, it appeared the Panthers were at risk of making an premature exit in the Class 3A regional semifinals.
But then, Avery Tibbs happened and the junior guard gave Washington a cushion, helping the Panthers pull away for a 66-47 playoff victory over Metamora behind a career-high 30 points.
“Avery Tibbs was pretty unreal and amazing tonight and that's all credit to her teammates for finding her and knowing that they couldn't stop her,” head coach Kim Barth said. “She wanted to win and she was going to do whatever it took to win.”
