Washington gains solo No. 1 spot, Metamora and Morton rise in latest AP statewide rankings

A total of 14 boys and girls basketball teams in Central Illinois were either ranked or received votes in the latest AP statewide rankings released on Jan. 8. Among them, four teams moved upward in the top 10 of their respective class, including Morton boys and Peoria Notre Dame girls.

The highest-ranked team in the area was unsurprisingly the Washington Panthers' girls team, who currently sports a 20-0 record, while Metamora earned the highest ranking of any team in Central Illinois on the boys side.
