PEKIN – Washington wide receiver AJ Jones knew when he transferred back to his hometown team this season that he would make an immediate impact.
The junior showed just that with a remarkable one-handed touchdown catch that sealed the Panthers’ 19-9 Mid-Illini Conference victory over Pekin at Memorial Stadium on Friday night.
“Coach [Todd Stevens] looked at me during a timeout and said ‘we are going to put all the marbles on you,’ and I said ‘give me all the marbles and I’ll do this,” Jones said. “(Tyler Humphrey) threw it up, I made the catch and it was just one of those moments where I knew I had my team.”
