“We belong at the top”: Metamora’s big-play ability helps Redbirds pull off thrilling win over Morton

METAMORA, IL – Metamora (3-1, 1-1 Mid-Illini) held off Morton’s second-half surge to earn a big 40-37 conference win over the Potters (1-3, 1-1 Mid-Illini) at Malone Field on Friday night.


In a game that featured two great defenses, it was the offenses from both teams that had the explosive plays all night long. The Redbirds ultimately had more fireworks as they had nine plays go for 20 or more yards compared to five plays of that category from the Potters.


“[We] were able to hit some seams in the running game, hit some explosive plays in the passing game,” Metamora head coach Jared Grebner said. “And it wasn't always pretty defensively, but we got the stops when we needed and that was big.”
