Metamora’s Matthew Zobrist is a proven winner and the Metamora senior continued to win, even after his senior season wrapped up.
On Monday, Zobrist was named the Class 3A boys basketball player of the year by the Illinois media as part of their all-state teams (formerly the Associated Press all-state teams).
Zobrist joins Peoria Notre Dame’s Lexi Baer as the Steve Tappa Player of the Year in their classes, an honor named after the Quad Cities-area sports reporter who died unexpectedly in 2024.
In total, 20 Peoria and Bloomington/Normal-area boys and girls basketball players were selected to all-state teams including Peoria’s Leshawn Stowers, Manual’s Dietrich Richardson and Brimfield’s Ava Heinz, who were all first-team selections alongside Zobrist and Baer.
